ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
MENTAL DEPRESSION. An inquest was held at ChristchurcH yesterday into the death of Raymond Leslie Duncan, aged twenty-one, , who was admitted to hospital on Thursday morning with a bullet wound in the chest. Duncan, who had never been robust, had, according to his mother’s evidence, no worries except indifferent health. On Wednesday night he went to the pictures,. returned home, had supper, conve.,sed cheerfully with hi* mother, and then went out to the garage. The mother beard him moaning at the back door. She opened the door, and Duncan staggered in, saying: “ Mother, I’ve shot myself j get a doctor.” He said something also about have nob been any good,” and made a rambliug statement, but gave no reason for his act. Mr Mosley, S.M., returned a verdict that Duncan died from a bullet wound, self-inflicted while in in a state of mental depression.—Press Association. KNOCKED DOWN AND KILLED. George Norton, married, aged twentyfive, Has knocked down by a motor cai in Great North road, Auckland, about 6.30 p.ra. yesterday. He suffered a fracture of tbo skull, and died in hospital two hours later. FATAL SLIP. John O’Shea, of Ashburton Forks, slipped when crossing a water channel in Burnet street yesterday afternoon, striking his head against th° bumper of a car standing alongside. Ho was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious condition, and died last evening. O’Shea, who was eighty years of age, was one of the oldest residents of the Forks district. Ho leaves a widow (invalided for many years), one son, and two daughters.—Press Association.
