Ho was, however, driven about "a lot, and was brought (to Dunedin in the ear which he made out that lie contemplated purchasing. 11 was on the question of costs incurred in connection with this drive it hat the present charge was laid. 110 might have been charged with false pretences. but the police in the northern district decided not to proceed. Accused said he was intoxicated at :ihe time of the offence, though ho was not reallv a drinker Occasionally, when his nerves went hack upon him, he took a few whiskies and Ihen lost control of himself. For a year or two veers, perhaps, he would not touch drink. . . .
