The smallness of the amount is accounted for by tbo bad weather experienced at the summer and anniversary autumn meetings, the latter having been postponed. Pacing was carried on at Kandwiek on liltecn davs, and £147,989 was distributed in stakes. The previous year’s total was £148,355. At Warwick Farm there were nine days’ racing, and tbo stakes totalled -£2-1,1:16, bringing tbo grand total to £172,145, compared with £176,USI for the previous year. The amount passed through the totalisator was £1,129,204 at Kandwiek, and £113,889 at Warwick Farm, a total ol £1,243,093 for thirty days, against £1,294,649 for thirty-two days last year. The State revenue from the totalisator was £112,000. HOCKEY, NEW ZEALAND TEAM’S TOFK. SYDNEY, August 12. {Received August 12, at 1 p.m.) Tbo New Zealand hockey team has arrived here. The manager (Mr Williamson) says that the men arc in perfect physical condition and that ho has every conlidenro in them. He is surprised at the growth of hockey in this country, but thinks there is a little too much Rugby. Tbo team has so far played seven games in Australia. It has won six and drawn one, and scored 01 goals against 5. The principal scorers arc Bell 16 goals, Watts 14, Scccoinbo S, Lusty 6. Mabony, Fiddler, Hero, Soper, and Lusty are tbo most, outstanding players. The New Zealand team for to-mor-row against New South "Wales is:— Goal, Fletcher; hacks, Mnhony and Soper; halves—Cole, Morris, and Flore; forwards—Lusty, Scccombc, Bell, Watts, Edson. A, civic reception was tendered the team at noon to-day.
