HEAVY CALL OH FUNDS At tliG regular meeting of _ the Mission House Committee, presided over by the chairman (Mr A. A. Finch), a larcce amount of business was trailsak’tccl. Tho. abainnan reported that in view of the expansion work the Rev G B Moreton had been appointed to the staff. TJi© report presented by the chaplain showed that Hie number of cases dealt with this winter exceeded that of any previous year. Some of the cases, which had been helped, were sad beyond words, and, if known to the public, would stimulate interest and sympathy, But the committee bad alwavs agreed with the chaplain that the publication of details would he a breach of faith with those who_ made known their sorrows in their time of need. The treasurer reported that, owing to the heavy call on the funds, it had been necessary to work on an overdraft. To put the finances in a better position he. had sent an appeal to a large number of persons, and was pleased to report that it was meeting with a gratifying response. The committee has seemed buildings in the Cathedral grounds as headquarters where it will he possible to interview those requiring assistance and provide spare for clothing for, distribution. Much of the time ol the staff is taken up in visiting flic lonics of those who seek assistance The financial assistance rendered is only lo tide over immediate need, as every, effort is made to make applicants self- ■ supporting. The task of investigating j cases and securing suitable employment entails a great amount of work, but the staff, the Revs Bryan King and G. E. Moreton, feel that this is absolutely necessary if the funds subscribed are to be put to the best use. Very gratifying letters have been received from men and women, in various parts of the country, expressing ihatiKS for the fresh start in life which had been made possible 4 or them through the advice and help received at the Mission House. It was reported that a, special wireless concert would be broadcasted from, 4VA on August 30, by which it was hoped to augment the funds.
