The club mentioned is Marist. Paewai today admitted ho had signed the form, but had no intention of playing League. Our correspondent wired this morning ; Did L. Paewai, the well-known Rugby Ad Black and Auckland representative player flirt with _ the League game? 'This very interesting question is to be asked at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby League this evening, when a discussion of interest’ in Auckland sporting circles is' expected in view of a recent announcement that Paewai had decided to forsake the Rugby code and play the League game. There is at present in tho possession of the Auckland Rugby League an application form w’ ich hears the signature “L. Paewai,” It roads: “I, L. Paewai, of 30 Lincoln street, Ponsonby, do hereby apply to be enrolled as a playing member of tho Auckland Rugby League,; and wish to play for the Diarist Brothers’ Old Boys’ Club until transferred in accordance with the rules and by-laws of the Auckland Rugby League.” The signature “ L. Paewai” is purported to be witnessed by Daniel M'Cartby, Appended is an application from the Diarist Club signed by 1). P. Deere for tho registration of Paewai, and the signature of T. Ciilpan, secretary of the Auckland Rugby League,. affirming that Paewai was accepted as a League player. Diemhers of the Auckland Rugby League intend to ascertain under what circumstances the signature purporting to be Paewai’s was obtained, and it is anticlpa ted that there will be some interesting disclosures. So far Paewai has not played the League game, and if he intends to do so a possible complication is that he rntry require to be reinstated as a. Leaguer, having played Rugby since signing.
