INTERPROVINCIAL RUGBY

RAIN AT WELLIHGTOH AKD IBVERBAB3ILL [Per United I’kess Association.j WELLINGTON, July 27. Wellingtovf is ploying its first interprovincial Rugby match on its own ground to-day against South Canterbury, but drizzling rain is falling and tiro ground is very wet alter heavy rain in the night.

OTAGO AHD SOUTHLAND [From Our Own Reporter.] INVERCARGILL, July 27. For the sixty-fourth game between Otago and Southland the weather conditions are npt very favorable. Rain commenced last evening and continued intermittently throughout tho night. This morning it was drizzling, and at noon it had not stopped. Rugby Park is in good order, but the effect of last night’s rain and the sand which has been put on to dry it will have the effect of making tho going heavy. The chances of Southland are favored hero, chiefly because it is thought tho Southland forwards, which arc heavier by three stone, will dominate tho play. Tho ‘ Southland Times ’ says: “There is a fpiiet confidence in the local camp that Southland will avenge the crushing defeat which Otago inflicted last year,” While recognising that the Otago team is not tho best possible, its supporters are confident that tho team, every member of which is thoroughly fit, will make a better showing than many anticipated. Interest in the gam© locally is as keen as in former years. Mr E. Kellv will act as referee.
