OTAGO BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting ot tho Otago Electric Power Board was held yesterday afternoon. Mr P. Collins, tho engineer-man-ager, submitted a report which stated that the main transmission lines were at present all in good order. ,A broken tie on on© insulator on tho Port Chal-mers-Waitati transmission lino caused an interruption ol lour hours during the heavy weather ot last week. Ibis was repaired by 10. Id on tho morning uf tho occurrence. In the Balclutlia district 2,060 poles and 270 miles ot wire, exclusive of contractors’ work, had been run to date. During the month tho men in that district had been occupied on necessary reconstruction at Kaitaugata. in tho Milton district 1,590 poles and 103 miles of wire bad been erected to date, in tho Waitati-Seacliff districts 748 poles and 08 miles of wire had been erected, and in tho Palmerston district the number of poles erected was 1,419. The lino from Otanoinomo to Romaiiapa, a distance ot 2 miles 60 chains had been completed, and power was supplied on July 2. The house-wiring contractor had made a start in Waitahuna. The total number of installations to date was 166, the work throughout giving entire satisfaction. The meters tested during tho month numbered 230. ... , , Every opportunity bad been taken advantage of to supply particulars in connection with tho supply at tho Seacliff Mental Hospital. Visits bad been paid to the hospital during tho month by Mr M'Curdic, of the Public Works Department and latterly by Mr Owens, tho chief electrical engineer’s assistant. Those gentlemen favored the supply at public institution rates, and it was expected that they would install apparatus in about two months. The report was adopted. Mr J. K. Simpson stated that all the work of the board was carried out under contract, and in the matter of casual work he advised that the board should give preference to local people. The next meeting was fixed for August 16.
