RUGBY FOR RUGBY’S SAXE.

TO TUB EDITOB Sir,—“ Less Whistle ” seeing to think the game of Rugby is played on Carisbrook wholly and solely for the benefit and amusement of the spectators. I think he is wrong. The game is played for its own sake, for when the pleasure of the jpectator is considered solely it ceases to be a game and becomes a business. Any game can only be played in one wav, and that is in accordance with the rules. If last Saturday’s match had not been “spoilt”, by too much whistle it would have been spoilt b-> T illegal play. The object of the game is to combine coed and spectacular play, not to allow bad play in the interests of the spectacular. Therefore the loss bad play the less whistle. As for the extra balls, the game of Rugby has no relation to the pawnshop. The rule distinctly says the game Is to bo played with a ball, not three.—l am. etc., July 18. Maintikns lb Ditorr.
