Tho resignation of Dr Muriel Bell, lecturer in physiology at the University, was received by the con noil at yesterday’s meeting, tho matter of appointing a successor , being left in tho hands of the Medical Committee. At the University Council yesterday the Chancellor referred to the death of Mrs Chapman mother of Mr H. Chapman. the registrar. A motion of condolence was passed, members standing. The Chancellor of the Otago University (Mr T. Iv. Si dey, M.P.) was granted leave of absence during the, parliamentary session by the University Council at its meeting yesterday. At the University Council’s meeting yesterday the acting dean of the medical faculty forwarded a letter from Dr Marshall resigning his position of lecturer on anaesthetics, and suggesting that Dr S. B. Strain be appointed pro tern. Tho letter was_ referred to the Joint Relations Committee. Recent visitors to the Grand Hotel include Messrs C. AA 7 . Rusbrook. O. A. Welsh, J. A, C. Bayne, J. B.
