Reference was made at the meeting of the University Council yesterday to the honor of knighthood conferred upon Professor Sir Louis Barnett, emeritus, nrofessor of surgery at tho University, and it was decided to write congratulatimr him. Tho resignation of Dr Muriel Bell, lecturer in physiology at the University, was received by the con noil at yesterday’s meeting, tho matter of appointing a successor , being left in tho hands of the Medical Committee. At the University Council yesterday the Chancellor referred to the death of Mrs Chapman mother of Mr H. Chapman. the registrar. A motion of condolence was passed, members standing. The Chancellor of the Otago University (Mr T. Iv. Si dey, M.P.) was granted leave of absence during the, parliamentary session by the University Council at its meeting yesterday. At the University Council’s meeting yesterday the acting dean of the medical faculty forwarded a letter from Dr Marshall resigning his position of lecturer on anaesthetics, and suggesting that Dr S.
