CORRESPONDENCE
SELECTION OF REFEREES.
TO IHB EDITOR. Sir,—What ’is the reason of the Otago Referees’ Association shelving the name of the Rugby fans’ idol, Mr A. G. Echold ? Surely jealousy ought to be eradicated from such an august body. Mr Eckhold is, without doubt, the finest referee in New Zealand, and yet they cannot select him in the list of five names asked by the New Zealand Rugby Union. 1 think it is disgraceful that such a man should be left out. I notice they never give Mr Eckold a game at Carisbrook. Third grade matches are good enough for him according to the Otago Referees’ Association, and yet Hawke’s Bay asked for his services to referee a Plunket Shield game. Trusting the Referees’ Association will be manly enough to include Mr Eckold’s name, I am, etc., Fairplay. June 21.
