O.R.F.U. COMMITTEE The weekly mooting of the Management Committee of the Otago Hugby Football Onion was held last night. Mr D. M. Stuart (president) in the chair. UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF. The Finance Committee recommended that £SO be donated to the unemployment fund, the amount to come out or the takings on Charity Saturday. The Treasurer (Mr G. Nelson) said this recommendation was made because the need for relief was urgent, and because it would be too late to wait for Charity Saturday. _ The recommendation was approved. GATE TAKINGS. • Tho Secretary reported, that the gate takings for the ’Varsity A-’Varsity B match last Wednesday were £34 9s 6d. The gate takings at Carisbrook oh Saturday wore £202 17s 3d, and the takings at all grounds for the day were £205 10s Id. ‘ ; , ~ The Treasurer (Mr ,G. Nelson) said the gate takings for the first round amounted to £1,312. That was ~300 better than any previous first round. (“Hear, hear.”) ADMISSION CHARGES. The Finance Committee recommended that the New Zealand Union ho advised that it would be impossible tor Otago to play the Maoris on August 13, as the Otago Union had a;ranged v a Country Week match for Unit date, arid the premier team of Dunedin ■would be in Christchurch on the sumo day playing for the Payne trophy. It was suggested that the Maoris play South Otago on August 13, and play Otago at Dunedin on Wednesday, August 17. The report of the committee was appl°' td ' THE TRIAL MATCH. The North Otago Union wrote approving of the suggestion that one selector from' each of the Otago, Southland, and North Otago Unions should be appointed for tho combined OtagoNorth Otago-South land team to play in the trial match in Dunedin on September 24. ’ The Southland Union also wrote approving of the suggestion. CAUTIONED. The name of a third grade player who was ordered off for tripping was placed on tho cautioned list. DEFAULTED. The weekly mooting, of tho Otago Rugby Football League was held last evening. Mr C Snow in the chair. The question of medals for the Christian Brothers’ Club was held over until a: report had been received from Mr Gillies. ■ . , , , Dr Moody was re-elected medical adviser to the league for the present season. A discussion took place on tho question of padding the goal posts on various grounds. It was resolved that two unemployed players be put on for half a day to carry out the work. The Secretary (Mr M'Keefry) stated that he had received a telegram from the Kaitangata Club stating that it had withdrawn from tho competition.— It was decided that a letter be sent to the Kaitangata Club expressing the exe"utive’s regret nt‘ its withdrawal, from Mio competition, nnd also the executive’s approval of the ’oyal manner in which it had helped the executive since its inception.

The Secretary stated that at a meeting of the Otago Referees’ Association, with reference to' the play-tbe-ball rule, it was decided that the rule stand over until further notice, and until replies had been received from the parent Referees’ Association at Auckland. It was resolved that the senior com-, petition be played for one more round, and that there bo two trial ratach.es at tho close of the next round. It was also resolved that the junior competition ha closed about the same time as tint for the seniors. A discussion took place as to tho advisability of bringing down second or third grade club teams from Canterbury to play matches against local teams on the same dav as the Canterbury representative game (if such takes place).— It was decided to hold the matter over nn+il the next meeting. A suggestion was received from Mr Rice to'the effect that the. matches next Saturday he nostponed on account of the match between the Canadians and New Zealand Association football teams. -Alt was unanimously decided to postpone all League matches until the following Saturday. Tho matte j of payment to injured players out of insurance moneys was held over on account of tho illness of the president. A letter was received from Grcymontri asking for tho support of the Otago League in a letter that the Westland League had forwarded to the New Zealand Council complain!”g about tho method of appointing selectors for the New Zealand team, and also in regard to the council’s attitude in respect, to the disqualified players in the recent New Zealand touring team.—The executive decided to endorse the first portion of the letter, but declined to take any action in regard to the second part. The name of Busbridge, a member o‘ the City Club, who was ordered off in the match against Athletic last Saturday for talking back to the referee and questioning his decision, was put on the cautioned list. F. MTlroy, the new delegate for the Athletic Club, who has been appointed to fill the position on the Judicial Committee rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr D. Gallivan, was welcomed by the chairman.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The Management Committee of the Football Association met last night, Mr J. B. M'Callum presiding. Alderman J.' Adam, manager of the Canadian team, and Mr J. A. The Chairman:Would I be unfair in asking if you have a personal opinion? Mr Milburn: I don’t think it would be fair, in view of what J have said. The Secretary reported that the association had bee'll allocated only twentyfive complimentary passes. It was decided to telegraph thp council asking for approval to granting the passes. SECONDARY SCHOOLBOYS. The question of free passes to all secondary schoolboys was raised, and after Mr Adam had given his experiences with northern schools the association decided to extend an invitation to all schools to attend the matches free of charge. CULLING PARK LEASE. The St. Kilda Borough Council ad vised that the association had been a fifteen years’ lease of Culling ?ark at a rental of £5 per annum. Clauses for the agreement were set out. ■ The Chairman said the letter would take a good deal of consideration, and he suggested that it be referred to the Finance Committee to prepare a report. A motion to tha effect was carried. EAST PARK GROUNDS.

The Ocean Beach Domain Board wrote remitting the charge fora ground at East Park this season, as it appeared that a full-sized ground was not yet available. The board’s intention was to continue the work of extending and improving the East Park grounds, and by next season it would perhapsb© possible to give the association a regulation size ground. As a matter' of area is concerned the' letter was referred to the Grounds Committee. . The New Zealand Referees’ Association advised that the following referees had been appointed fop the Canadian matches: —y. Otago, Mr Preston; v. New* Zealand, Mr W. P. Smith. Preston will act as line umpire on Saturday, and Mr Smith on Wednesday.

THREAT TO RESIGN SOUTHERN CLUB AND SOCCER. “ When wo mentioned our resignation from the code we were not using ; idle words of threats,’as. stated by one : of your members, but just plain facts, stated the Southern Club in a. letter to the Management Committee of the Otago Football Association last night. “In view of the fact that we have now appealed twice to : your_ committee to reopen the case of Balchin, we still maintain that the statements of the suspended player and : the writer uere misunderstood by the O.F.A. Coinniiltee,” wrote Mr 0. Jones (secretary), of the Southern Club. “Their decision and ruling does not only affect our senior team, but also a matter of fifty or sixty juniors, as we have to draw 'from them to fill vacancies in our senior team, caused by the .dissatisfaction, of several of our players regarding the O.F.A.’s ruling. Surely we are entitled to a fair and just hearing, and when we mentioned our resignation from the code wo were not using idle words of threats, as stated by one. of your mem-

bers, but just plain facts; but we would like to carry on for the juniors’ sake only. If you still refuse to •eopen the case our only course will be to appeal to tho New Zealand Council ior a rehearing.” Mr M’lnnes suggested that the.club be advised to make its appeal to the New Zealand Council. Mr Ollier: We have already told them that. We should decide now ro ■ take no further action until the appeal is made through us. I move accordingly. The Chairman: Wo don’t want to give them umbrage. Mr Smith seconded Mr Ollier’s motion. The club’s previous letter to the association had been nothing mere or less than _ a threat to resign ft cm the competition if the case was not reopened. In view of the circumstances, ancf following on a full discussion, the association had decided it would noi bo justified in granting a rehearing. The Chairman: We have already told them that.
