NELLIE BRAMLEY COMPANY
Few plays have been written with more human interest than ‘Paddy the Next Best Thing.’ Picture a father who, wishing for a. boy, liuds that a girl child has been born to him. H© finds her such a lovablo child that he nicknames her Paddy, and to him she is always the ‘‘ boy ” of his dreams. Paddy is a lovablo character, and, played by Nellie Bramley, Paddy is said to be made m Qr ° lovablo still. Her desire to do everyone a good turn gets her into many scrapes and awkward situations, but Paddy’s natural Irish wit and her sterling character get her through all difficulties. George HewUtt, who plays Blake, and who is well known to New Zealand amusement lovers, is particularly well cast, and there are many powerful scenes between him and the laughter-loving Paddy. An amusing scene is that in which two old town characters call at the pharmacy to get a “pick-me-up” after an hilarious night out. Paddy by some chance is left in charge of the chemist shop, and the mixture she gives them not only picks them up, bht puts them down again. Others in the company are Robert Purdie, William Raymond, Brett Randall. John Galway, Bernard Reeby, Eve Downey, Millie Carlton, Marie D’Alton, and Mabel Gower. The box plans for the whole season will open at The Bristol on Thursday next. ‘ Paddy ’ will be played for five nights, and will he followed by ‘ A Little Bit of Fluff.’ * Fair and Warmer,’ Peg o My Heart,’ and ‘ Camille.’
