In the Bouse of Commons, asked whether he could make a statement on Egypt, Mr G, l.ockcr-Lampsou (Foreign Under-Secretary) replied: “ As the precise scope of certain passages in the original Egyptian Note on the subject of tbs Egyptian Army were open to some doubt, Lord Lloyd communicated to Sarwnt Pasha the interpretation placed by him (Lord Lloyd) on tin. passages in question, and requested its confirmation by ilie Egyptian Government. Sarwat Pasha bad now addressed to Lord Lloyd a further Note, which in the latter's opinion satisfactorily explained the attitude of the Egyptian Government and disposed of the cause of the recent tension.”
Mr Lockcr-Lampson added that he had not received any report from Lord Lloyd as to the British battleships which had been sent to Egyptian waters, but there was no doubt that the battleships would now In withdrawn, and, according to a Press report, one of them had loft already. The First Chamberlain of the Court of Egypt had arrived in London to complete arrangements for the visit ol King Fuad, which begins on July 4.
