LONDON, Juno 16. (Received June 17, at 10 a.m.) In brilliant weather, reminiscent of tho zenith antipodean summer, Shipman and Berry, who opened for Leicester, relished the fast billiard-table wicket, and treated the bowling ruthlessly. This partnership had produced 94 before Blunt caught Berry in two minds, and held an easy catch. With Armstrong, Shipman carried on in a style that threatened a big total. Then, through Hendorson’s agency, a dramatic change came over tho game, and from 137 at lunch time the score had become seven for 164._ At one stage four wickets foil for 4 runs in as many overs, and the county side suddenly found itself struggling to avoid a follow on. The ninth wicket actually fell w’hen still 3 short of the required number, but Snary kept up his wicket, and with Skeldiug averted disaster. Henderson bowled superbly, and took five wickets cheaply. Lowry is keeping wickets in place of James, who is indispOS6(l» The attendance was 1,200. New Zealand went in again, and gave a very poor display. Blunt and Lowry were soon out, and the total at the tea adjournment was two for 29.
Page made another fine effort, and, except Allcott, was tho only one to stand up to the bowling. The former had eleven 4_’s in his 65, and the latter also hit brightly. At the end of tho day nine wickets had fallen for 165 runs, and Now Zealand thus had a lead of 294.
