RENEE KELLY COMPANY
Miss Reneo Kelly and her company, who will to-night present ‘ Brown Sugar,’ last night gave the , final performance of ‘ The Last of Mrs Cheyney,’ a delightful comedy by Frederick Lonsdale, and made an instantaneous success. Miss Kelly, who has fully justified the reputation with which. she came, is a talented and finished actress, and is well supported by a strong company. ‘ BROWN SUGAR ’ TO-NIGHT. To-night the last play in the repertoire will be presented. This is 1 Brown Sugar,’ described as one of the most intriguing and attractive of the modern comedies. In this Miss Kelly takes the part of Lady Sloane, the ex-chorus girl married to a scion of nobility who has, it is presumed, more money than brains, but who has his good points all the same. Miss Kelly has an excellent role. She speaks without reservation and with decided emphasis, punctuated with some lurid language unknown to some of her aristocratic friends. Sho is, as her cognomen denotes, tl coarse, but refined,” but beneath the common exterior there is pure gold, and in the end sho proves to be the most genuine woman in the play. The cast of characters is an exceptionally strong one, and nil the members of this talented company appear in congenial roles. ‘ Brown Sugar ’ created quite a sensation when produced in the larger cities of the world, and it is sure to draw big audiences during its short run—confined to two nights—in Dunedin. There aro many amusing and some dramatic scenes in this remarkably well-written play, and it will be staged under the persona! direction of the producer, Mr Hylton Allen. The bos plans .or 1 Brown Sugar ’ are open at The Bristol.
