PADEREWSKI

RECITAL ON TUESDAY RIGHT Paderewski’s recital in His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday should be : a memorable one. The most famous ' of living pianists, intensity is the keynote of his music (said one writer). He is as one inspired by tho force of tho passionate but refined reflections on life. His conceptions require him to ’ enlarge the scale of normal expression. Both tone and speed are pressed to their legitimate limits in his endeavor to pour forth the vehement vitality of his majestic thought. Yet, as the complement of his robust convictions, ho is poetic, too. The quality of rhythmic emotion never ceases to play a part in his musical decisions. The programme to be given by this great artist on Tuesday night will afford him many opportunities of showing the wonderful range and wealth of his noble mind. Bach’s ‘ Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue ’ combine rhapsodic improvisation, tender expressiveness, and clearly calculated reasoning. Bee- 1 thovon’s 1 Moonlight Sonata ’ has never had a player more eminently suited temperamentally. As a Chopin interpreter, Paderewski’s ability has never been challenged. There is no music more intensely national in character than that of the Polish composer, and it is natural that Paderewski, brought up in the same artistic and political atmosphere, which half a century earlier moulded Chopin’s creative inspiration, should have a deep and intimate insight into tho subtle phases and wonderful beauty of his great countryman’s works. Paderewski will also play his own imnressive - ‘Chant cler Voyageur,’ and the official programme will conclude with Liszt’s outstanding composition, 1 Rhapsodie Hongroise No. 12.' The box plans for the 12s 6d seats opened this morning. Special reserves at £1 Is are also available.
