CANADA'S FIRST DEFEAT WEST COAST, ONE GOAL TO Hll [Pen United Press Association-] GREYMOUTII, Juno 15. In the presence of a largo crowd and under ideal weather conditions the Canadian team met the West Coast representatives to-day, and suffered its first defeat, the homo team winning by 1 goal to 0, after a strenuous and exciting contest, in which the tenacious defensive tactics of the local players withstood every* onslaught of the .visitors. The popular nature of the win is indicated bv the fact that tho West Coast goalkeeper, Timlin, Was earned shoulder high from tho held at the conclusion of the game. Tho Canadians did by far the most attacking, but their shooting mostly lacked direction, and brilliant saves nullified their best shots. , Tho West Coast team, facing the sun, made a good start. Rarity opened up tho play, but the Canadian defence was too good. Paynter skimmed the bar with a long-range kick. M Neil missed tho Canadian goal, though lie look his shot from only 12yds. hrancis tested Timlin, and then another West Coast player, Clark, missed with a shot at goal when tho Canadian goalkeeper was out of position. Fino passing by tho Canadian right wing saw lurner shoot, but Timlin made a sensational save. The visitors continued the pressure, Timlin and Wick saving. Them a West Coast rally resulted in M Noil shooting wide. Several shots by cis and Gibson- (Canada) failed. Moon and Edmunds put in some lino long shots, one by the former being tipped over bv Timlin. Towards tho end ot the first spell tho West team .strongly attacked, Tait saving in the face of a solid onslaught. West Coasu again attacked, and were awarded a foul against the goalkeeper for overstopping, and M'Neil goalcd^ On changing over tho visitors attacked, Timlin saving well. Then Wick saved just on the goal line. Tho West Const forwards were not well led tin tho latter stages of the game. Paynter and Broilv fed their van well, but the West Coast defence and inaccurate shooting, prevented tho score from, being equalised, though Paynter once put Timlin on his mettle. Thompson was responsible for several bad shots, then towards the end Clark, M'Neil, Hcwison, Rarity, and Steer were frequently on the offensive. M'Farlano was feeding bettor, but the visiting rearguard was impenetrable, except once, when M'Neil shot weakly. Tho main item of business at a meeting of the Auckland Football Association was tho conduct of tho Thistle (Tub. The matter arose over tho suspension three weeks ago for one playing Saturday ol J. Christie, a Thistle senior player. Thistle submitted it vas impossible" for Christie to have kicked Woolley, as his leg was locked. The club strongly protested against the decision, and requested the stigma, to be erased from tho A.F.A. records, adding that it seemed tho apparent desire of somebody in tho A.b.A. to bring the name of the Thistle Club into disrepute. After discussing the question the Management Committee passed a resolution that the Thistle Club bo ordered to pear before tho committee of the A.F.A. next Tuesday to show cause why the Thistle Club’s committee should not bo dealt with for refusing to withdraw the letter of May 31.
