Amongst gazetted appointments as justices of the peace are the names of Messrs Thomas Bragg (Stewart Island), John Galt (Hokonui), James Scott Allison M'Dougall (Bluff), William Edward Decourcey Hughes (Toharahi), John Joiner (Enfield), Donald James Ross (Hillgrove), Alfred Edward Ansell (North-east Valley),_ George Asquith Ohatto Creek), David James Caldor (Dunedin), James Clouston (Becks), Robert Douglas (Otago Heads), Matthew M'Cubbin (Lauder), William M'Leod (Tapanui), Cornelius Machin Moss (North-east Valley), Hugh A. Munro (Fnirlie), Jonathan Rhodes I North-east Valley), William Stevenson (Dunedin). Five women are included in the list. They are Mesdames J. S. M. Harding (of Hobson). A. E. Hobson (of Levmi, M. C. Cook (of Mount Eden), E. G. Lock (of Nelson), and Mies A. E. Colthart (of Malvern).
