CALCUTTA TEA SALES. CALCUTTA. Juno 9. At the opening of the tea sales there was a keen demand for all good qualities. Poor, medium, and common sorts were weak, and met with poor support, a large proportion being withdrawn. Average prices:—Common pekoe Souchong, 10 annas 11 pice; common broken pekoe Souchong, 11 annas to 11 annas 6 pies; even black leaf pekoe. 19 annas to 12 annas 6 pies. UNITED STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY. Ballots and sales in the United Starr--Bowkett Building Society were held last evening. There was a good attendance of members, and the meeting was presided over by Mr E. A. Rosevear (chairman of directors). He stated that this was the third appropriation in No. 10 group, totalling £2,400, Tie sum of £1.600 of this money was secured by ballot and lent to members without them having to pay any interest for twelve and a-half years. In that time their loan would be paid off and their deeds returned to them. A furtb“ r £6,000 would be disposed of next month. A ballot was then taken for the sixtieth appropriation in No. 5 group. Cluster No. 20 was drawn, held by one member. A sale was then taken for the sixty-first appropriation in No. 6 group. This resulted as follows: —£27 per £IOO. A ballot was then taken for the third appropriation in No. 10. group. Cluster No. 58 was drawn.
