FANCIERS’ SHOW

BIG ATTRACTION AT BRYDOHE HALL . ADDITIONAL RESULTS The animal show of tho Dunedin Fanciers’ Club, which was opened yesterday morning, attracted a big crowd to tho Dry done Hall, particularly in tho evening. This year’s show is one of the best ever held’by the club, both in respect to tho number of entries and also in the matter of quality. The fact that the standard is showing a marked improvement each year is tangible evidence that the club has more_ than justified, its existence, and it is also pleasing to notice that its efforts to encourage exhibitors by its liberal cash prizes and handsome trophies have been equally successful, because there has been a better response than ever in most' of the sections. The dogs are again an oustanding feature. Mr T. Veitchj one of the judges in the pigeon section, asserted that the birds ho had seen at tho present show could not be equalled anywhere. “They were a very even lot, and it was no easy task selecting tho prizewinners. There seems to have been an improvement all round, and I am certain that the standard is higher than that of the last show. The homers are a particularly fine lot, and it would be difficult for me to over-praise the birds in the classes for long-distance fliers. They are an exceptionally fine lot, and it must bring joy to tho heart of every true fancier to know that we can produce them here. They certainly compare very favorably with tho best I nave seen anywhere.” He also had a good word to say for the young birds. • The judges of the canary section stated that the breeders’ class included a splendid lot of birds, and tbe general condition of tho section as a whole was good. Special reference was made to the best Norwich bird, which was described'as being well feathered and of good type. The best Yorkshire was also a good specimen, well brushed and set up. Some of tbe older birds,' it was added, were inclined to be sluggA comparison of entries, with the figures for last year, is as follows:
