TAINUI PROGRESS LEAGUE
HALF-YEARLY ■ MEETING The half-yearly meeting qf the-Tainui Progress League was held last evening, when Mr G. B. Hastio occupied the chair. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, said ! he would like to see more members present, although he was sure that the league was being well supported by residents in the district. in moving the adoption of the report, he stated that some work had been done in the cleaning up of the streets generally, and a post office box had been erected in the district. The most . ; urgent question at the present time was, the storm-water, drainage, which would come in due course. The Dunedin Drainage Board had been approached, and when Mr Edgar visited the district, he was surprised at- the state of the channels. A_ scheme for the betterment of the existing conditions was to be put forward immediately. Several of the streets were in an unformed state, and people had no footpaths or any proper approaches to their houses. - • •
The report was adopted. ■ It was decided to send-a- letter to the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board pointing out that it was now six months since a deputation by the league waited upon members re the stormwater drainage of the district, but _ nothing had been done so far to relieve the position. Mr Hay suggested that a slogan on the lines of the one set by the Anderson’s Bay Association' should • be adopted, and that instead of “ Water for Anderson's Bay,” it should bo ‘‘Removal of Water from Tainui.” This mat with the approval of the meeting.
