ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

DEATH BY HANGING. David Ritchie, married, aged fiftysix, who resided at Lome street, South Dunedin, and was employed in the Hillside Railway Woikshops, was found hanging in.a' shed belonging to Mr Ralph Johnston, 61 Cutton street, about 9 o’clock on Saturday morning. Mr Johnston notified the police immediately, and Constable M'Robie, of tho South Dunedin police station, who found that Ritchie had been dead apparently for some time, had the body removed to tho morgue. An inquest was bold at tho morgue on Saturday evening, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., sitting as coroner. Evidence of identification was given by John Ritchie, brother of the deceased, who said that as far as ho knew there was no reason why his brother should have taken his life. Constable M'Robie testified as to tho finding of the body, and said tlyvt when he arrived it' seemed to have been banging for some days. A verdict was returned that deceased committed suicide by hanging while in a temporarily deprri«\l state of mind. DIED IN HIS CELL. A Christchurch Association message states that William Henry Forsythe, aged thirty-eight, and single, who was arrested the previous day on a charge of being a rogue and vagabond, was found dead in his cell at the central police station late on Saturday. Tho iuouest was adjourned for a post mortem. SEVERE THROAT IN JU RTFS. Herbert Ingamells, single, aged forty-five, was admitted to the Pahiatua Hospital with his throat severely cut.—Press Association telegram. A HEAD-ON COLLISION. John Stewart Ellis, of Wellington ,a student at the Canterbury College, met with a severe injury yesterday morning, when riding a motor cycle. Ellis had a head-on collision with a motor car, and was- taken to the hospital/ suffering from severe- injuries to his face,, and also a fractured leg. Christchurch Press Association telegram.
