The early and compulsory adoption of distress auto-alarms on all merchant ships was foreshadowed, at the annual meeting of the Marconi International Marine Communication Company. The device automatically picks up ships’ distress calls and operates a special signal note, summoning the wireless operator, oven when off duty.
