Though the wind to-day still sat in the west, it was quite gentle when the racing began, and the sun shone, making matters pleasant for the horses, the riders, and the crowd—the Very large crowd. The course was in excellent winter order. The First Battalion Band again supplied the music.

Kernvood Bell broke when lying third. Katute got second place to Nourmahal after a mile. Nourmahal led into the last lap from Katute and Sea Queen, but broke with three furlongs to- go, leaving Great Bell in second place. Halfway down the straight Great Bell had the race safe, and she won by seven and a-half lengths, third the same distance away, Elusive and Tamerhyio next. Time, 4min 42 4-ssec.
