ME HUDSON MAXIM. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, May 6. (Received May 7, at 11,30 a.m.) The death is announced of Mr Hudson Maxim, the inventor.—A.P.A. and ‘ Sun ’ Cable. [Mr Hudson Maxim was born in America in 1853. He started in business as a printer and publisher in 1883, and in 1888 took up the business of ordnance and explosives. He was the first man to make smokeless powder in America. He was also the inventor of a detonating fuse for high explosive armor-pierc-ing projectiles. The town of Maxim, New Jersey, where he built a dynamite mill and smokeless powder mill, was named after him. Ho was no relation of Mr Hiram Maxim, the inventor of .the Maxim machine gun.j|
