[Special to the ‘ Stas,’] WELLINGTON, May 6. The determination of the union to play the interisland match at Wellington this season has left the Hawke’s Bay delegates feeling a little sore. The decision was obviously the result of an arrang/ement autside of the conference hall, since Canterbury, which was previously considered to have the strongest claim to the fixture, surprisingly refused the opportunity to obtain the game. When the matter was brought up Mr Norman M'Kenzie (Hawke’s Bay) moved—“ That his union be given the game,” and the claims of Hawke’s Bay were strongly urged by Mr J. Nome and Mr O’Neill, the other represents tives of the champion province. Mr H. Harris (Otago) then suggested that Canterbury had prior claims, but Mr S. F. Wilson, leader of the Canterbury delegation, rose and said that the date fixed for the North-South match was unsuitable and too late in the season for his union. Mr Hams next proposed that Otago be given the fixture, but this was lost on the voices.

Mr M'Leod (Taranaki) ended the discussion by stating that his union considered that the contest should always be played in Wellington. The motion to make Hawked Bay the scene of the match was lost by 87 votes to 29, Canterbury’s four votes being cast for the negative. Wellington was then given the game.
