MAYORAL INSTALLATION Tho installation of Mr John I’. Walls as Mayor of Mosgiel for the third term ,ivas carried out ou Thursday, The same evening the nowly-clocted councillors (Messrs Jolm Wright, L. S. Dyer, Jas. Henderson, James Mitchell, G. A. M'Lood, and John Garrett) were sworn in.

The ceremony was attended by about fifty representatives of the local bodies af the district and, those holding official positions iu the borough. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the Hon. D. T. Fleming, Messrs T. K. Sidcy and J. M. Dickson, M.P.s honored the assemblage with their presence. The mayoress and councillors’ -wives _ also , graced the gathering. The Taieri Pipe Hand and Municipal Band played a programme of music to welcome' the visitors to tho town,, the former escorting Sir Thomas Mackenzie into tho hall, where a welcome was extended by the mayor. In turn Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the Hon. D. T. Fleming, Messrs T. K. Sidey, and J. M‘C. Dickson acknowledged the welcome and stated their pleasure at being present. The two first-named said they had more reasons than one for attending. . In‘proposing the toast of ‘.‘The Parliament of New Zealand,” Sir Thomas Mackenzie made a comparison between the Parliament of New Zealand and .those of other countries he had visited. He had experienced poorer Parliaments and Parliaments equal to that of the dominion, but none superior. The Hon. D. TV Fleming and Messrs T. K. Sidcy and J. M‘C. Dickson, in responding, entertained their hearers by recounting items of interest from both Houses of Parliament. The redistribution of boundaries was commented on, and hopes were expressed that the minis of Taieri electorate would be one day restored.

Wright, and G. A. M‘Leod (Mosgiel Borough Council). Crs J. \V. Blair and Walter Blackic (Taieri County Council), Mr B. T. Sadd (Taieri River Trust), and Mr Kv.ans (Public Works Department): “ExMayors,” proposed by Mr James Mitchell and replied to by Mr A. F. Qiselch; “The Public Service,” proposed by Mr William RJackio and responded to by Messrs Charles Findlay and M. Curran.
