TO-DAY'S CASH PRICES The shopper’s guide gives the prices ruling to-day over the counters of city shops. Meat prices remain firm:—Mutton, 2£d to 7d lb; beef, 2|d to 7cl; corned beef, 4£d to 8d; lamb, 7d to 9d; pork, Is Id; mince, 4d.

Fruit prices are:—Pears (dessert), 4d and 6d lb; bananas, 8 for Is; peaches, 8d lb; Cox’s apples (new season’s), 6d lb, 31b for 1s 3d; grape fruit, 6d each; passion fruit, 8 for Is; Sunkist oranges, 3 and 4 Is; Californian lemons, 3d each and 5 for Is; hothouse grapes (Gros Colman), 3s lb.

Prices for vegetables are:— Pumpkin, 51b for 1s; local potatoes, 101 b for Is; hothouse cucumbers, 8d to Is each; lettuce, 3d to 4d; cabbages, 4d to 6d each; swede turnips, 12ib for Is; marrow, 3d lb; jam melon, 3d lb; hothouse tomatoes, lOd lb; local hothouse tomatoes, Is 3d lb; cooking tomatoes, 8d lb; cauliflowers, 8d to Is 3d each; green peas, 8d lb; French beans, Is 3d lb; celery (long sticks), 6d each.

Fish prices are:—Groper, Is lb; kingfish, 1s lb; soles, from 4s a dozen; flounders, from 4s a dozen; red cod, 6d lb; ling, 6d lb; blue cod, 1s lb; oysters, Is 6d a pottle; trevalli, 6d a lb; smoked blue cod, Is 3d lb; smoked ’couta, from Is each; smoked ling, 8d lb; and new season’s mutton birds, from Is 3d each.

Eggs are still 3s and 3s 3d a dozen; butter, Is 4d (cooking) and Is 7d lb; sugar, 3£d lb and 18s 6d for 70’s; flour, 5s 3d for 25’s, and 10s 3d for 50's; bacon, Is 4d a lb; and honey, Is a lb.
