AMERICAN INDUSTRIES
AUSTRALIAN MISSION’S INSURES QUESTION OF EXTENSION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, May 5. (Received May 6, at 9.45 a-pi.) An animated meeting of the Australian Industrial Mission at Holyoke, Massachusetts, discussed the itinerary, the difficulties of which were intensified owing to the inspections that members individually desire to make, and Mr Ludowici’s determination to return by the Tahiti on June 15. Mr Guy aud Mr Grayndler also expressed a desire for an early return, Mr Grayndler being prepared to remain an extra fortnight, provided that all tho members returned on tho same day. It is understood that Mr Guy was prepared to waive his objections, although by remaining he loses his nomination for the South Melbourne municipal election. Other members insisted that an extra month was necessary. Eventually tho mission agreed on an itinerary, providing for a week in New York. It will afterwards go to Worcester, Boston, Providence, and Philadelphia, arriving at Washington on May 24 for the preparation of the 1 report. Mr Ludowici will leave on June 10 to catch the Tahiti. The balance of the itinerary will be considered at Washington. Tho mission is now inspecting industries at Holyoke and Springfield before returning to. New York. The features of the tour of New England have , been the apparent freedom of the industries from Labor restrictions and the prosperity of the cities. The official record shows that strikes and lock-outs in the State of Connecticut are few, only 6,000 men having been involved in two years.
