A gentleman went to the races and backed a horse at 11 to 1, giving th« bookmaker a sovereign. He went to seo the race, returning after his horse had won. The bookmaker gave him eleven pounds, and the gentleman commenced to bite each one and put them in his pocket. The bookmaker got indignant, and said: “Look here, my man, those sovereigns I gave you are good ones.” “Maybe.” replied the other one coolly, “but I’m just looking to see if the bad one 1 gave you is amongst them.”-
