ELECTION RESULTS CHRISTCHURCH. A LABOR VICTORY, For the City Council the present figures show that Labor has won eleven seats and the Citizens’ Association five. For the North Canterbury Hospital Board the following were elected;—Mr J K. Archer, Mrs M'Combs. Mrs Green, Rev. C. Carr (all Labor), Mrs Herbert. Mrs Roberts, Dr Foster, Dr Acland (all Citizens’ Association). The sitting chairman (Mr Otley) and two other, members were defeated. Lyttelton Harbor Board: Those elected were —Messrs H. T. Armstrong and B. J. Howard (both Labor), H. Holland and J. R. Hayward (Citizens’ ticket). Mr Thacker, who had been a member for many years, suffered defeat.
—The Mayor’s Eolicy.— Speaking of his future policy, the Mayor (Mr Archer) said to-day that though there was a Labor majority on the council he had no intention whatever of setting out many kinds of municipal enterprise, though he was determined that the milk supply of the city should be first-class. There would be no large expenditure without consulting the ratepayers. QUEENSTOWN. Our Queenstown correspondent wires: The interest in the local elections is the greatest known in the history of Queenstown. Almost every elector voted. Interest centred mainly in the mayoralty, for which Mr A. Simson (who has held office for ten years) and Mr W. H. Overton (one of the retiring councillors) were candidates. Two out of five of the retiring councillors nominated were re-elected, and seven new members. The whole of the Progressive League’s nominees were elected. The following are the results: — Mayoralty.—Overton 186, Simson 170. Coucillors. —North Ward: F. Gavin, Dr Anderson. R. Gilkison. South Ward: T. Rutherford, J. Fix, M'Caughan. Lake Ward: A. Schieb, T. Melville, H. Lorden. HOKITIKA. Borough Council.—E. Teichelmann, W. Jeffries, D. J. Evans, A. Armstrong, J. King, A. R. Elcook, T. W. Duff, G. Heanz, E, W. Keenan were elected. Harbor Board.—W. Ziegler, 6. Wood, and E. W. Keenan. Westland Hospital Board.—si. J. Breeze, T. W. Duff, and G. Heinz, STRATFORD. The sitting mayor (Mr J. W. M‘Millan) was returned by a substantial majority over ex-Councillor Finnerty. BLENHEIM. ' Mrs F. Redwood, Blenheim’s lady councillor, was defeated at the municipal election, hut was elected as the borough’s representative on the Hospital Board. NELSON. Mayoralty.—Mr W. J. Moffatt, 1,588; Mr W. Lock (present mayor), 1,449. DANNEVIEKE. Mayoralty.—A. J. C. Runciman was elected unopposed. Borough Council (first nine elected). —H. S. M. Quigley, 1,076; A. H. R. Gillespie, 1,069; Leo Stein, 1,056; C. H. Hansard, 1,025; Walter Dobson, 953; G. J. E. Bickford, 898; R. S. Chadwick, 851; A. W. Smith, 838; L. W. Ward, 743; W. M'Kinnon, 739; P. A. Butler Harrison, 689; W. T. Eyre, 456; Clifford Thompson, 410; J. W. Hood, 355. Dannevirke Hospital Board (first two returned); Leo Stein, 983; David Drummond, 927; George I. Anderson, 619. Dannevirke Power Board (first three elected).—H. S. M. Quigley, 955; A. J. C. Runciman, 842; Fred. Craven, 776; A. H. R. Gillespie, 532; J. H. Fairhurst, 396; A. W. Smith, 357. HASTINGS. The retiring councillors were Reelected, with the exception of Messrs Cohr and Hay; who were replaced by Mr A. I. Rainbow and Mr R. Henderson. Hospital Board.—Mr George Maddison. _ Mayor.—Mr Gilbert M‘Kay. Power Board. Messrs Maddison, Scott, Phillips. Harbor Board.—Mr Lowe (Inner Harbor), 1,680, defeated Mr Lassen, 704. The Wednesday half-holiday was retained by 1,665 votes, against Saturday, 704 votes. EKETAHUNA.
At a poll yesterday the Saturday half-holiday was carried by 10 votes.
