NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES
[From Oim Corresposdbut,] Jlr J. Brown presided over a -wellattended meeting of members of the Colindell section of the Queen Carnival on Monday. Various reports of the committee in connection with the recent gala day at Mr Barling’s wore received and considered. The chairman referred to the afternoon function, < Twilight,’ to be held at his place on Saturday afternoon. It was reported that this function was chiefly for the children and young folk, although parents and others would ho welcome. It was decided that no function he held on Saturday evening, thus giving the Wharfdale section a free hand in connection with its social at which the art union wall be drawn.
On Wednesday evening some thirty players gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. G. Rowlands. The evening was occupied with progressive euchre, the tournament being run under the auspices of the Colindell Queen section, and a pleasant time was spent by those present. Prizes were donated. Mrs Budd and Mrs Kellett tied and the play-off resulted in the former’s favor. Mr Andrews secured the gents’ prize after a play-off with Air Hinkley. The “ booby ” prizes were obtained by Mrs Howio and Mr Rattray. An enjoyable supper was handed round. A mooting of the Wharfdale Committee of the Queen Carnival was held on Monday evening, Mr Thitbie being in the chair. Arrangements in connection with Saturday night’s function, at which the art unon will be drawn, were attended to, and a sub-committeo was sot up to arrange for the drawing of the art union. Members expressed their appreciation of the fact that as a result of the committee’s solicitation the Harbor Board had seen fit to make a donation of £25 towards the reclamation of the proposed recreation ground. The final social of the season under the auspices of the Ladies’ Committee of the Ratepayers’ Association was held in the hall on Saturday evening. There was a large gathering present, .and .a most enjoyable time was spent. Excellent music was supplied by East’s Orchestra, end supper was served by the ladies.
On Tuesday evening another successful progressive euchre tournament was held under tho auspices of the’Wharfdale section of the Queen Carnival. The gathering was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. Smith, where about seventy persons gathered. The first part of tho evening was taken up with cards. Supper was dispensed by the hosts, after which a short musical programme was got through, those contributing items being Mrs Kellott, Messrs J. M. Niven, Walls, J. Niven, and J. Vivian. Mrs Gibson won the ladies’ first prize, Messrs .u. Budd and Rattray being equal_ for the gents’ prize, the former winning in the cut off. Mrs Marett and Mr J. M'Donald secured the “booby” prizes. ' Mr McDonald proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Smith for the pleasant time spent, and this was carried by acclamation. On Thursday a card evening was held in the hall in connection with the Wharfdalo section, the function being organised by Messrs Milward, Ferguson, and Scott. There was a largo attendance and tho gathering proved a very successful one. The evening was filled in with progressive euchre, after which supper was partaken of. Mrs Hellyer and Mrs Churchill were equal with games won, the former being successful in the play-off, Mr Kellett won the gents’ first prize, and the “ booby ” prizes went to Mrs Henry and Mr Shurrock.
