KAURI GUM CONTROL BOARD
HO IMTERFERENGE WITH EXPORT AT PRESENT [Per United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, March 31. The Kauri Gum Contx-ol Board concluded its first meeting late to-day. The board was of opinion that it would be in the interests of the producers that holders of gum brokers’ licenses should not also be gum buyers, and a recommendation was made to the Government to this effect. It was further recommended that the issuing of gum buyers’ and gum brokers’ licenses should be loft in the hands of the board.
The board agreed that there was no necessity to interfere with the export of gum at present, and that before any action was taken under the powers vested in the board in this respect three months’ notice of its intention would be given.
The board received several complaints from producers concerning the prices they had received _ for their gum. It was decided that if any complaints were made to the board by producers regarding unfair treatment, documentary evidence was to be submitted and referred to the producers’ representatives for a report. With regard to the levy for carrying out the functions of the board it was decided that the levy should be f per cent, on the f.0.b., Auckland, value of gum for the first six months and H per cent, thereafter. _ It was decided that recommendations be made to the Minister accordingly.
