DISAPPEARED
VOIIIIG MAH BELIEVED DROWNED The discovery of male garments on the pier at the Kaik on Sunday has aroused fears for the safety of a young man named Leslie Malvern Karetai, who resided at Portohello, but who has not been seen since early on Sunday morning. Ho attended a dance in the district on Saturday night, but since then his movements cannot be traced. The fears aroused by his disappearance are intensified by the fact that a note was attached to the clothes, the not© consisting of one word, “ Drowned.” The matter having been reported to Constable Souter, of Portohello,*he, with a number of settlers and fishermen, has been dragging the harbor in the vicinity of the Kaik jetty, but so far the operations have been futile. The missing young man is about twenty-four years of age, and was employed as a laborer in the district for some time. Later he worked for a firm in Dunedin, and at the time of his disappearance he resided at Portobello, near which his father has a farm.
