She is due on Saturday to load out for Napier and Gisborne via ports. The Calm is due on Saturday morning- from Bluff, and will sail that day for Timani, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Opihi is to leave Timaru to-mor-row for Dunedin to load out for Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport via ports. _ The Karetu was to leave Bluft at l p.m. Due here to-morrow, -she; is to sail to-morrow evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, and Sydney. , • The Waipiata left Auckland last evening for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. , . The Argyllshire is due at Port Chalmers on Sunday from Bluff to load frozen meat ana wool. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Wmlune, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 7.35 a.m. today, and passengers and mails connected with the 8.50 express.

MISHAP TO COLLIER. The steam collier Christina Fraser returned to Sydney some weeks ago badly damaged along the bottom and with the loss of two propeller m-toes. The vessel bud struck ou Jibbon Bombora, off Port Hacking, while proceeding from Sydney to the Bulli Jetty to load a cargo of coal. According to a report received by the State Navigation Department the steamer left. Sydney at 1.30 in the morning, and the mishap occurred a couple of hours later, The captain immediately turned the vessel round, and reached port safely at 5.30 a.m. During the day the steamer was placed on Mort’s slip, and found to be severely damaged. Five plates have been damaged at the.turn of the hilgo, and in addition two propeller blades are missing. The Chnstiiia 1* raser is a steel screw steamer of 717 tons-gross. She was built at Aberdeen in 1925. Jibbon Bombora is a detached patch of rocks lying about half a mile to the south-east of Hacking Point. There is a depth of fifteen fathoms half a mile to tlio eastward, and seven fathoms close to the northward. A SUCCESSFUL -SYSTEM. . The success of the Ishenvood system as applied to shipbuilding is strikingly shown by fho fact that up to the ’ end of last year IXSI vessels, aggregating 13,096,480 tons dw. carrying capacity had been built upon this principle. For the , initiatory year, 1908, the figures were six ships of 31,608 tons, but so great was the appeal the system made to owners and builders that hv the end of 1912 the ships built, totalled 240 and aggregated 1,777,348 tons dw.

BOUND FOR NORFOLK. Resuming after two months’ idleness, the Government steamer Hinemoa left Auckland cm Monday for Norfolk Island. She is duo back on April 4. HERTFORD’S LOADING. The Federal Company advises that the Hertford will leave Bluff on Saturday for Picton to eomrnenco loading for London and W’osf. Const of Great Britain. The vessel will proceed from Picton to New Plymouth to complete discharge and to continue loading. She will sail from New Plymouth eti April 12 for Wanganui, Napier, Lyttelton, Timaru, Port Chalmers, and Wellington to fill up. Tlie Hertford is due at Wellington on May .2, and will sail from that port on May 6 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool, taking cargo also for Manchester. NEW FOG SIGNAL. The Marine Department advises that on or about April 1 a Diaphone fog signal operated, by compressed air, is to commence operations at Pcncarrow Head, on the eastern side of the entrance to Port Nicholson. DENHAM AT PANAMA. The Denham from New York, is reported to have sailed’from Panama on Friday in continuation of her voyage to New Zealand. She is due at Auckland on April 17, and will later proceed to Wellington. Lyttelton, and Dunedin to complete discharge.

MAHAN A AND CAMBRIDGE. Eu route from Lyttelton to London, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mabana is reported to have reached Panama on Friday. She was despatched from Lyttelton on’March.3. Tne federal line steamer Cambridge, which sailed from Lyttelton for London on February 28, is also reported to have reached Panama on Friaay. THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. Messrs H. L. Taplcy and Co. advise that the Canadian Challenger is Auckland about April 4 from Haliiax via Panama. The vessel is laden with Canadian cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin. She is expected at this port about April 2U.

SOMERSET'TO LOAD. • The New Zealand Shipping Company announces that the Somerset is due at Port Chalmers about April 29 from Napier to ' load dairy produce, frozen meat, apples, and other cargo for Hull and, London. -The Somerset will complete loading at- northern ports. DEVON REPORTED. The Federal I.ine steamer Devon is reported’’to have cleared Newport News on Friday in continuation of her voyage from Wellington to London. The vessel loaded at New Zealand ports, including'Auckland, and sailed from Wellington ou February 18. THE WEST ISLIP. The American steamer W : est Islip arrived at Auckland late on Sunday night from San Pedro to unload lumber, case oil, and general cargo from Pacino Const ports.
