The St. John Ambulance Brigade, whoso attendance the public very often observes at various gatherings, has a very good record of work for the year 1926. The commissioner for New Zealand (Colonel Barclay) mentions that the number of public services rendered by members amounted to 16,139. This includes cases of first aid while on public duty and privately, cases nursed by the members of nursing divisions, hospital attendances, and transport of the sick and injured. Tho figures for the preceding year Were 9,505, so that it will be seen that a remarkable advance has been made. Members while in attendance at public functions treated 7,937 cases of accidents, many, of course, of a minor, but some or a serious, nature. The number of cases of first aid attended to privately was 6,284. The lady members assisted by nursing 488 cases, many of them by way oi supplementing the efforts of the district nurses. The report refers to the increased interest which is being taken in the work of the brigade, and which manifested by the formation of four .'.additional'units during the year.
