MIGRATION VOTES

LONDON, March 29.

Migration looms largest in the Dominion Office domestic estimates. The Oversea Settlement vote totals £1,540,000, an increase of £503,000. Provisions for _ Australia include £347,000 for interest on development loans, compared with £182,000 last year. The now vote includes £15,000 for the erection of houses in rural areas; £400,000 for assisted passages, compared with £350,000 last year; and £5,000 for training and after-care depots, compared with £43,000 for last year. There is also £30,000 for child migration to all the dominions, including the Fairbridge Farm scheme (compared with £20,000 last year).

The new Australian votes are £5,000 for training domestics before embarkation, and £B,OOO for a new organisation for medically examining assisted migrants before selection. The Now Zealand items are £25,000 for cash advances to settlers desiring their own farms, and £138,000 (compared with £126,000 Inst year) for assisted passages. The grant for the general work of the Empire Marketing Board and Econo™o Committee is restored to £1,000,000, compared with £500,000 last year.
