A DANCING PARTNER
YOUNG MAH CONVICTED OF ASSAULT

AUCKLAND, March 29. Francis Joycelin Johnston Pletchei, twenty-nine years of age, pleaded guilty in tho Police Court to assaulting a young woman and to a breach of hk probation order. Chief-detective Cummings read a statement by accused in which ho stated that he was a coal and firewood dealer. Early in March he advertised for a dancing partner who was willing to travel at a gftod salary. - Between eighty and ninety girls applied. He admitted that he told one complaint that she would get £3 a week while learning and £7 a week on tour. He advised her to take a flat, and he drove her home in his car. At the gate he put his handkerchief round her ankle and said “ I think you will do.” Counsel for the accused said that, there was no suggestion of impropriety. The assault was caused by the girl refusing to kiss. The magistrate imposed a sentence of fourteen days’ imprisonment on the first charge and a fine of £lO for a breach of probation, agreeing later to reconsider the sentence this afternoon.
