OCTAGON ‘Tho Family Upstairs,’ a comedydrama of American home life, is the current attraction at the Octagon Theatre this week. This is a fine picture, because it has all the ingredients which go to make up good entertainment. The story is all about the Heller family, who lived in one of those apartments in the avenue where they walk throe flights up and save lOdol, Virginia Valli plays the part of the shy older daughter, _ Allan Simpson is the timid lover, while J. Farrell MacDonald is tho father and Lillian Elliott tho mother. The Octagon Orchestra supplies a good programme of music. EMPIRE ' Aloma of the South Seas,’ which Maurice Tourneur directed for Paramount, has Gilda Gray in the leading role. The story centres about Bob Holden, played by Percy Marmont, who goes to a remote island in *he South Seas to find himself. Here he falls under the spell of Aloma, a beautiful native girl. Nuitane, the girl’s native lover, becomes jealous, and when Van Templeton and Sylvia (the latter Bob’s fiancee, but now married to Templeton) appear the native takes the two white men out in his canoe in a storm. Nui-, tane escapes and rescues Bob, but the sharks take Templeton. Aloma realises that the marriage of native and white man will not bring happiness, and resigns herself to Nmtane. while Bob and Sylvia are happily reunited. Also showing is the official film of tho visit of the'Duke of York to Dunedin. EVERYBODY’S AND KING EDWARD Dolores Del Rio, the much-heralded screen beauty, is seen in a stellar role, opposite Lloyd Hughes, in tho new First National comocly-draraa ‘ P.als First ’ at the King Edward and Everybody’s Theatres. The beautiful star is one of the richest heiresses in Mexico. The picture deals with tho adventures of three crooks, one of whom masquerades ns tho owner of a southern home. With his two “crook” pals ho is welcomed as the returned master of tho establishment. The film boasts one of the best surprise endings of the season. ‘ Tho Age of Innocence,’ a Warner ' Bros.’ classic of the screen, directed by 1 Wesley Rugges, is the second attraction.
