SCOUT NOTES

. On Saturday last the 2nd Dunedin, (Mornington) Troop had a good muster.! After inspection the leaders took charge , for first class work. The Scouter and; Cubber put several boys through second i class tests. S.M. Ashby and _ A.S.M. j James visited the troop, and while there . S.M. Ashby took one boy for his tender- j foot tost. Scouts Res and Healy were, put through the investiture ceremony, I and became members of the Great, Brotherhood of Scouts. After tho visiting Scouters had shown the troop some I now games the Scout’s promise, was repeated, and the troop was dismissed. Next Saturday the cycle patrols of tins troop are to go to Brighton to complete arrangements for the blaster camp The Ist Dunedin (Roslyn) 'I roop of Boy Scouts paraded as .usual last r riff ay night. After roll call and inspection the leaders took charge of their respective patrols. The Stags, who had mitered for tho pioneer competition, have now withdrawn, owing to two of their number having left the troop. The Bellbirds were given a lecture on * fractures and Their Treatment _ by Mr Crigbton. The Hawks practised signalling (semaphore) for half an hour, then went through the land drill for the rescuer’s badge. This was followed by a weight-judging competition. A good hint which was given the boys was that an average man can, with Ins arm parallel to the ground and held stiff, hold a weight or 161 b. On Sunday morning the troop met at M'Jlillan street, and, headed by the band, marched to the Maori Hill Methodist Church, where a dedication ceremony was held. There were thirty Scouts on parade. . „ The 4th Dunedin North Troop held its weekly parade on Friday. Eighteen boys answered the roll call. All recruits were instructed in tenderfoot work, and were found to be very proficient, several being almost ready to pass the test. The remainder of the troop did second class work, and afterwards had talk with the S.M. on scouting and its principles. After half an hour at games the troop repeated tho Scout promise, and was _ dismissed at 0 p.m. During the evening the troop was visited by Mrs Muntz and Mrs Scott. The 9th Dunedin (Mohicans) Troop hold its parade oh Thursday evening. After inspection by the Scouter tho patrols, in charge of their lenders, practised tenderfoot and second class work. The Scouter then spoke to_ the troop of a now scheme to be introduced. Each of the patrols will specialise in one branch of Scout work for a month or two, or until some degree of efficiency has been attained, when a different subject will be taken, thus helping the patrols to maintain efficiency and interest, also an nil-round knowledge of Scout work. Tho Bellbirds will take signalling, Tuis ambulance, Seagulls imssionors, and the Moreporks pioneering. Two Scouts were sworn in. ami the Scouter impressed upon all the greatness of the brotherhood to which they belonged. The dominion and canoe hnkas were practised. The troop then dismissed after repeating the Scout promise. Last Friday evening the 10th Dunedin (Green Island) Troop paraded in fairly large numbers. The rolls won; marked, and then Scouter Murie divided the troop into two sections, one section practising signalling, while the other did first aid. Later the boys had a game of sniper snipe, after which the parade was dismissed by repeating the promise. Earlier in the evening Scouter Murie told the boys that he had arranged for those who_ eould go for a visit to tho warship which is nonin Dunedin Harbor, so on Saturday afternoon fifteen members of the troop, under the Scouter, visited H.M.S. Veronica, and spent a most interesting and enjoyable hour on board, being condtietfetTovor the ship by guards, who did nil spare themselves in showing the boys all that was of interest. On behalf of the troop Scouter Murio thanked the officer for the day.

Owing to tho wet ■ night last Wednesday only four of the Mormngton Wolf Cub Pack turned out on parade. The Cuhber and assistants were also there. The boys bad a little game, and then all went home about 7.30.

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday the Roslyn Pack paraded at its headquarters in Maori Hill, there being rather a small muster on account of tho weather. After inspection the pack was split into three parts—tenderpacl, first star, and second -star —the_ assistants taking charge of tho respective parts. In the latter part of the evening the _ Cubs played games, which they all enjoyed, and wanned them up before they rvent home. The pack was dismissed at 8.30.
