SLEEPING ON BEACHES
HEAT WAVE IN AUSTRALIA SEVERAL DEATHS REPORTED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, January 12. A heat wave is being experienced in the southern portion, of Australia, and many elderly people are unable to stand the strain. Seven deaths occurred^ in Adelaide, and a man and woman died in Melbourne. Hundreds of people slept on the Victorian beaches last night to escape the stifling indoor air. Patients in the hospitals are the worst sufferers. Ambulances are kept busy owing to people collapsing from heat. DEATH ROLL GROWING. ADELAIDE, January 12. (Received January 13, at 1.30 a.m.) Five additional deaths are reported as the result of the heat wave, making a total of twelve deaths.
