Auckland’s Fine Recovery

Interesting Day’s Play

Bowiey in Form

Yesterday’s cricket at CarLshrook provided some exciting and many interesting interludes, and at the end of the day the position was such as to make the ultimate result of the game so uncertain that not even the closest student could care to forecast it. Mills, who was showing some very weak shots, was nearly bowled by Blunt when 6, the ball beating the wicket-keeper as well. At .‘l4 Torrance went on in place of Dickinson, whose four overs had cost 17, the veteran sending down a maiden to Mills. A. W. Alloo came on vice Blunt at 40. With these two trundlera on run-get I ing was carried on at a funereal pace, two being produced in about twenty minutes. A quartet to Rowley saw' 50 hoisted. .Auckland’s coach followed with a couple of Us off Torrance. Blunt was given another trial with the hall at 60, each batsmen adding a single. Aljoo sent clown a couple of gifts to Mills next over in the shape of full tosses, which Mills smashed to the fence. Dickinson replaced Shepherd at the railway end, and Rowley made an uppish one some distance short of the howler. The next Rowley turned eftori lessly to square leg for a single, Cherry reluming well, and Cooper cut the fast bowler through the slips for a sweet single. Green had to withdraw on account of an injured rib, Knight taking up the position behind tho stumps, and Wilson, the Aucklander, fielding sub.
