Captain C. M'Donald left this morning by the second express, bound for Taumarunni. The Rev. Stanley Jenkiii travelled to-day by train from Dunedin to Timaru. Mr Roderick Mackenzie left for Christchurch this morning. Mr R. S. C. Brown left to-day to attend a students’ convention near Masterton, Mr J. Robertson, the most recently appointed inspector to the Otago Education Board, has been appointed senior inspector to the Southland Education Board, a position rendered vacant by the transfer of Mr D. A. Strachan to Wellington. Staying at the Carlton Hotel are Mr A. Mills (Riverton), Mr W. C. Tangye (Queenstown), Miss L. Loversidge (Christchurch), and Miss Thelma Geodes (Lyttelton). Mr and Mrs L. Smith, Mr and Mrs L. Kellett, Mr and Mrs Fisher, and Mr R. A. Horne (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs W. Campbell (Palmerston), Dr, Mrs, and Master Burns (Timaru), Mr and Mrs P. A. M'Dowell (Oama.ru), Mr and Mrs H. D. Morgan (Gore), and Mr B. Snow (Invercargill) are staying at the City Hotel. A Sydney message announces the death ‘of Mr Thomas Williams, secretary of the Ballarat Bowling Association, formerly a Commonwealth rink champion. A Sydney cable message states that, Mr A.'E. Wearne, manager of Renter’s Agency at Peking, has arrived to take over the general management in Australia and New Zealand, in succession to Mr J. A. Barraclough, who is retiring. Commander Decoux, of the French man-o’-war, returned the Otago Harbor Board’s visit this morning, _ and was received by Mr D. Larnacli (in the absence of the chairman) and Captain Mac Lean (harbor master).
