TORRENTS AT ROTORUA

SHOPS AND STREETS INVADED

[Per United Press Association.]

ROTORUA, December 80

Yesterday afternoon a thunderstorm swept Rotorua. Five inches of rain were recorded in a few hours, and the water invaded shops and streets, being running-board deep on cars. Considerable damage was done in the shops. The rain is purely local, extending over a narrow area. A washout on the Whakatane road, outside the town, is being repaired.
