The weather over Christmas was the worst ever experienced at Tauranga. Rain commenced to fall on _ Tuesday night of last week and continued alI most without cessation till Sunday afternoon, but fortunately Christmas Eve was comparatively fine. On Christmas Day there was a continuous downpour, and a thunderstorm on Sunday morning was followed by a fine afternoon. Monday was fine till 4 o’clock, when a heavy thunderstorm brought more rain. Yesterday was fine, hut , dull, for the annual regatta, for which record entries were received. The ocean yacht race from Auckland was won by Wairiki, with Queenie second and Ngatoa third. The yachts left on Christmas Eve and did not reach Tauranga till nightfall on Sunday. They experienced the full force of an easterly gale.
