Police-inspector Murray, who is promoted to suhcecd to the superintendency at Dunedin, arrived from New Pdymouth last night. He knows the district, having been previously stationed here. Judge Gilfedder came from Southland this morning, and went on by the 11.40 train, bound for Wellington. Air E. F. Duthie travelled by train to Oamaru to-day. Mr James Wales has come from Cape Town, after twenty-six years absence, on a visit to his brother, Mr P. Y. Wales.

Tlie following party left for Westport tins morning to supply tho musical portion of Westport’s diamond jubilee celebrations Mrs A. Macartney, Misses Bertha Clement and Bertha Rawlinson, Messrs J. Deaker, A. Walmsley, W. Le Gal, and Bert Rawlinson.
The new guests at tho Excelsior Hotel are Mr and Mrs R. S. Goodman and Mr David Grant (Timaru), Dr and Mrs M'Nickcl, and Messrs J.'K. Cunningham and W. Aspray (Christchurch), and Mr J. Forbes (Wanganui).
A London cable states that the Duke and Duchess of York have returned to London from Sandringham to complete the preparations for their tour.
