FINE WEATHER TILL NEAR THE END The weather at Wingatui yesterday Was fine until five races of the D.J.C.’s second day’s programme were over, and the course for those five events was in capital order. Light rain then set in. The attendance seemed to be a little below the average. The following coaicludes our report:— GRAND STAND HANDICAP, 275 sovs; second 55sovs, third 275. 6f. 2—R. M. Grecnslade’a Countersign (Paper Money Kilberry), 7.9 (C. Eastwood) 1 I—E. and M. M'Paddon’s Booster, 8.12 (C. Emerson) 2 6—T. Harrison’s Arrowmir, 7,0 (T. Metcalf) 3 Others: 2 Lava (8.6, J. T. Humphries), 4 Sweet Melody (car, 7.2, E. Olsen), and 5 Dancing Days (7.2, L. J. Ellis). A good start, but Countersign got chopped out and went on several lemgtns astern. : Dancing Days and Lava made the pace from Arrowmir, and this pair led right into the straight. Hero Booster challenged, and was establishing a lead when Countersign flew up on the outside to win by a length, third two lengths off, then Dancing Days and Lava. Time, Imin 15 4-Ssee. TAIHOA HANDICAP., 200sovs; second 40sovs, third 20. 6f. 1— j. W. Armour and A. Aitcheson’s Martis (Martian —Eva), 8.8 (W. Cooper) 1 S—P. Shaw’s Overhaul, 8.2 (B. Brodie) 2 2 H. A. Price’s French Belle, 8.0 (J, Andrews) 3 Others: 5 Rosenor (9.5. F, E. Jones). 4 Credit (8.6, J. T. Humphries), 7 Real Glad (8.6, A. Didham), 3 Lady Dilatory (8.1, F. Voight), 5 Spean Bridge (car. 7.11, N. Dwyer), and 9 Symons (8.0, R. Burns). All well away. Martis at once took the lead from Credit and Overhaul. Speau Bridge and Rosenor got handy after a couple of furlongs. Rut ■ northing threatened Martis, who wont cm strongly and won by a length and a half, third half a length away, then Spean Bridge and Lady Dilatory. Time, Imin 16 3-ssec. ALLANTON HANDICAP, 250sovs; second 50sovs, third 25. Im. 3 J. Graham’s Queen Balboa (Balboa—Golden Queen), 8.0 (P. Powell) ... 1 5—J. L. Hannon’s Bilbo, 7.8 (L. J. Ellis) 2 2—T. P. Wilson’s King Sol, 8.5 (A. Didham) ... 3
Others: 7 Roseday (10.2, W. Cooper), 1 Pink Note (9.8, J. Andrews), 4 Full Swing (8.11, F. Voight), 8 Happy Warrior (8.3, J. M'Chesney), 6 Courtly Rose (car. 7.2, E. Olsen), and 9 Bloom (car. 7.4, N. Dwyer). Pink Note and Happy Warrior were slow in beginning. King Sol, first out, showed the way to Bilbo and Queen Balboa. After two furlongs Bilbo headed King Sol, Queen Balboa lying third and Full Swing next, Roseday last. Bilbo led King Sol by half a length into the straight. Momentarily Full Swing and King Sol looked dangerous, hut the real challenge came from Queen Balboa, who outstayed the lot and won by a length, King Sol a length further back, then Courtly Rose, Full Swing, and Pink Note. Kain's Receipt, 8.5 (F. Voight) 3 Others: 1 Arpent (8.3, W. Cooper), 3 Bugle Note (7.13, J. Andrews), 6 Gold Brick (7.11, P- Powell), 8 Hurdy Gurdy (car. 7.2), E. Olsen), 7 Dark Spot (7.0, C. Eattwood). Hurdy Gurdy and Receipt raced past Arpent and led into the straight. Receipt held on and looked safe, but Miss Winkie and John Bradbury challenged, and Miss Winkie *on by a neck.
