His total in his partnership with Woodfull is also the first wicket Sheffield record. Although the bowling was below the usual New South Wales standard, Ponsford’s display was a masterly one. Ho had a let off at 88, and survived an appeal for a catch at 211. At the tea adjournment the score was one for 329. Eventually Richardson was finely caught by Gill off a long drive. New Zealand scored eight tries, of which four were converted. Broughton Rangers obtained two tries and_ a penalty goal. Play opened scrappily, the New Zealanders experiencing difficulty in combating Broughton’s vigorous forward rushes. Tho latter opened the scoring, Bevan placing a penalty ,foal. Twice later the name team almost crossed the New Zealanders’ line. Then the visitors attacked strongly with a magnificent bout of passing, the hall travelling threequarters the length of the field. Gardiner and Brisbane were prominent, and the ball went to Avery, who crossed. Dclgrosso failed to convert. Lomas then scored an unconverted try for Broughton, and immediately before the interval Dufty broke away and sent in Avery, Dufty gnaling. In the second half a Broughton player, Morriman, was absent, owing to an injury. The New Zealanders gave a vastly improved display, and were superior in all Brown, Kirwan, and Avery scored tries in. the first quarter of an hour, Dufty converting the last one. From then on the visitors’ brilliant handling and speed nonplussed tho home players. Three times they penetrated the defence, but the final passes were knockd on. Mason scored a try, Dufty converting. Avery continued to he the outstanding player, and scored two further tries, one of which Dufty converted. Condren, for Broughton Rangers, reduced the lead by scoring a try, and the game then concluded.

Hall and Delgrosso played an excellent game behind the scrum, while Brisbane and Kinvan were brilliant centres. The team was Dufty, Brown, Kirwan, Brisbane, Gardiner, Hall, Delgrosso, Menzies, Parkes, Herring, Thomas, Mason, Avery.
