iAGAMDREWi'S BAY REGATTA AH ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME Considering the wretched weather that had prevailed over Christmas and the following day, the Macandrew’sßay Regatta Club was fortunate in the conditions under which the annual regatta was conducted yesterday. The day broke fine, and the. sun shone out through the clouds before the programme commenced, a fresh breeze being to the advantage of yachtsmen without greatly affecting the oarsmen or competitors in swimming events. There was a large attendance of the public, and the club has every reason to feel gratified at the success of this year’s fixture. A lengthy programme was got through well up to time, praise for this being due to the commodore (Mr G. F. Bewley). The secretarial arrangements, in the hands of Mr C. G. Hook, left nothing to be desired. The judges were;—Messrs E. T. Moller and J. Riddell (motor boats and yachts), F. W. Mitchell, S. G. Styche, and W. Robinson (rowing), S. Whitburn (swimming). Mr R. L. Kellett started the yacht races and Mr E. V. Fairbairn the rowing events. Fairly large entries were received for the yacht and motor boat events, though they were rather disappointing in one or two classes. _ The finishes, however, were a splendid tribute to the work of the handicappers, Mr F. Percy (yachts) and Mr, *4. Lindsay (motor boats), for in most cases there was very' little between the placed boats. Though the Winifred was expected to win the fourteen-foot Jellicoe class (sailing dinghies), it was thought that the Heather would give her a good race. The Winifred, however, made no race of it, and the judges decided to Rond the boats round the course only once. The Winifred was the better handled of the two boats, though in the earlier stages the Heather wassailed well. The all-comers’ yachts handicap was carried off by Shadow on a handicap of Bmin SOsoc, the scratch boat, Tucana, filling second place. The yachts, 20ft. and over 12ft din, handicap, drew three starters, the boats meeting a fairly heavv breeze when off Russell’s, the Seagull capsizing. The Mavis and Agnes ,wcnt to the assistance of the Seagull’s crew, and then continued the race, the judges deciding that it’should he resailcd at a future date.

There was keen competition and spirited finishes in the rowing events, which attracted splendid entries. The outstanding feature of the afternoon was the success of the Port Chalmers Rowing Club’s crews, the Portites carrying off four firsts and one_ second, and heading the prize money with £l3. Queen’s Drive gained two firsts and three seconds, taldng„£9 10s, and Otago one first and two seconds, with £8 in trophy money. The Otago Club’s champion senor four was not extended in its race, and won as it liked by six lengths, rowing with perfect co-ordina-tion. Port Chalmers effected one of the surprises of the day by carrying off the junior fours, in which Queen’s Drive were the favorites. Port took the lead about halfway, and won by three lengths. The Port crew that won the youths’ fours also accounted for the maidens, while the youth’s double sculls fell to them. Queen’s Drive met with a good, deal of success, and it was pleasing to see North End crews making a good showing at the finish of Several races. The swimming and diving events attracted a good deal of attention, hut the aqua planing event had to bo omitted in view of the difficulty of securing a suitable boat. On account of the paucity of entries the model yacht events were also cut out. Results:— YACHTS AMD MOTOR BOATS ALL COMERS’ YACHT HANDICAP.
