ECONOMIC CONFERENCE
INVITATION TO AMERICA
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,
WASHINGTON, December 21. Official notification has been received 'that the United States has been invited to send delegate.? to the International Economic Conference under the auspices of the League of Nations in Europe next May.
The State Department declines to say whether, it will accept the invitation until its text becomes known. However, it is felt that it would he unwise for the United _ States to enter, even through unofficial spokesmen, a conference in Europe that might throw open for discussion such questions as the American tariff, immigration restriction, and a possible modification, or even the cancellation, of war debts. Yet there in some feeling in official circles that the United States might well attend in order that her position regarding important questions might be set forth by her own citizens, without being subjected to unanswered criticism by others.
